Summary
Mr. McCoy is the head of the food & beverage
division of Apex partners and was a recent addition to the Apex Board of
Advisors in February 2005. Jim specializes in sell-side and buy-side
Mergers & Acquisition ("M&A") assignments for Middle Market privately held
companies.
Work Experience
Mr. McCoy began his career in the food industry in 1991 when he joined
International Trading Company (“ITC”), a rapidly growing Houston, Texas based
food processor. Mr. McCoy was the first non-family officer of the company where
he served as Vice-President of Finance & Administration and Chief Financial
Officer in the organic growth of ITC from $60 to $200 million from 1991 to 1997.
He formed and chaired the first executive management committee where he was
instrumental in all strategic decisions for the company and also simultaneously
served as general manager of the family’s $35 million, 150 employee wholesale
food Distribution Company. ITC was successfully sold and merged into Corporate
Brands Foods America, Inc. (“CBFA”) in 1997.
Mr. McCoy was named Senior Vice-President of Finance and Chief
Financial Officer of CBFA where he was instrumental in the growth of that
company in 30 months from $250 million to approximately $1.0 billion through
organic growth and the acquisition of four complementary food processing
companies with 11 processing facilities located in Texas, Nebraska, Maine, New
Hampshire and Iowa. CBFA was successfully sold to IBP, Inc. in February of 2000.
As part of IBP, Inc., Mr. McCoy was named Executive Vice
President of ITC, then a $400 million independent operating company of IBP, Inc.
Among other responsibilities, Mr. McCoy was directly responsible for all sales
and marketing activities and was heavily involved in all financial and strategic
decisions and initiatives of ITC. Mr. McCoy also simultaneously served as
general manager of Supreme Smoked Meats, Inc. in Madison, Nebraska. Tyson Foods
acquired IBP, Inc. in 2001 and he remained with Tyson/ITC until 2002.
In 2002 Mr. McCoy joined the restructuring efforts of a Houston
based $4 Billion public company while awaiting the expiration of a one year
agreement with Tyson. Following the completion of his role in the corporate
restructuring efforts he joined ITC Trading LLC, a management consulting and
private equity company based in Houston Texas.
ITC Trading LLC is focused on the food processing arena and
currently provides financial, strategic and business development consulting
services to and has investments in Swift & Company, Petaluma Poultry, Snowball
Foods and Kings Delight to name a few. Mr. McCoy also serves on the Board of
Directors of GoodHeart Brand Specialty Foods in San Antonio, Texas.
Education and Accreditation
He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in
1986 and served as an SEC, management and litigation support consultant with
Arthur Andersen & Company from 1986 to 1991. Mr. McCoy is a member of the
Turnaround Management Association, Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and
the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Born in Beaumont, Texas in 1962 he and his wife Kim reside in
Houston, Texas with their three children.
